Who is this unmasked man? Where did he come from? Why is he here? What do I care? You may find yourself asking yourself these questions, and let me assure you, they are quite uncommon.

But, you didn't visit this area of my webpage for your health. So I'd better get off my duff explain a few things about myself.

Me!
Introduction
My name is John Oleszkiewicz, I am 19 years old. I live in Michigan. Right on the west side of the state is the second largest city Michigan has: Grand Rapids. That's where I live. Its a very nutty conservative town, but we won't get into that.

Schooling

I used to go to West Catholic High School. It was okay my senior year, and I made some pretty good friends there, but it was way too heterogeneous. White, upper-to-middle class Catholics. Hooray. Make that mostly self-aborbed white, upper-to-middle class Catholics.

Ah well, I shouldn't be so hard on the place, only the superfical majority were the annoying people. When you join things like the Band, the Choir, or the school Musical, its quite possible to find very cool people who actually care about the real world.

I currently attend Grand Valley State University. I have completed my junior year. Right now I'm a computer science major. I'm also a weenie Honors Student. That is, I'm part of the honor's program, which, admittedly, I think is pretty cool. I have something like a 3.88 GPA.

Computer Science was something I picked up on right away freshman year. I took the Computer Science I class and I was hooked ever since, despite knowing next to nothing about computers previous to that.

And of course, there is the informal education that Grand Valley has granted me. It is the sheer experience of living in Johnson Living Center. Living in a dorm, no, an Honors dorm, is quite an experience in people. Its not the real world, but its not meant to be anyway. Its meant to give a unique living environment of (alleged) scholars. I must say, its only effected me for the better. It has granted me a circle of irreplaceable friends, more knowledge than I ever could have dreamed of having than if I simply lived at home (or even in 'normal' dorm) and, indirectly, it has granted me many other things.

Of course, a living center does not make a man...apartment living does that! I lived in the Laker Village apartments junior year and will continue to do so senior year.

Things that I do
Let's see. I've always loved reading. As a child I went to the library every weekend just to get more to read. I don't have much time to pleasure read during the school year, since I spend so much time studying. But, I try to catch up during the summer months.

Computers are my vocation. They will (hopefully) be my source of employment and they are also a hobby. I enjoy working with software more than hardware. Hooray for programming.

I used to run three miles a day, but starting freshman year of college, I dropped out of that habit. To replace it, I've gone to Tae Kwon Do classes twice a week. They've actually been quite fun and informative. I'm much more flexible than I ever have been as a result, and I'd like to think I'm a slightly better fighter than I was before I started. But, if there is one thing you get from Tae Kwon Do, its that the more you learn, the more you realize you don't really know anything at all.

When I'm not "hangin' out" or "chillin'" (for you young folks out there) or working, I usually create work for myself. Its my odd form of relaxing. Usually its a programming project of some kind. Lately, I've been getting back into Legos, since they have become much cooler since my childhood (and I have my own money to spend on them now).

Things I want to do

Well, I just want to enjoy myself at college at the moment. When I leave, I'd like to go on to graduate school. Eventually, I think I would like to be a Professor. There's just something about getting the Ph.D, teaching others, and the ability to pursue intellectual interests with the backing of Academia that interests me. I suppose we'll see.

Everything is going pretty well, and I hope it stays that way.
