The Science Book Project

What is the Science Book Project?

There are many books written about science. However, most of these books describe only small parts of the overall scientific picture. There is no book which describes science from its philosophical foundation to its historical development to its current practice to the theoretical framework it has constructed. This project aims to construct such a book.

Writing a single, monolithic piece of work on science would be extremely difficult. To help manage the complexity of this task, this project will construct a book out of the components contained in a series of articles written about specific topics. Each article will discuss some topic about science, and parts of the articles will be used to construct the book. The more articles written, the closer the book comes to completion.

This book is being written using the open-source programming methodology. This is done to accomplish two things:

  1. Encourage the active partipation of the reading community to suggest improvements and contribute content.
  2. Provide text that is re-usable in other projects. Since the subject matter is so important, I believe it is also important to avoid reinventing the wheel - and that others should be able to use the text developed here as a "standard" description of science.
