Description
You can download the Science Book project here.
The science book project is available in multiple forms.
While the entire book is available, some of the content is broken off into smaller, more easily digestable articles.
These are clearly labeled as "articles."
The book products are available in multiple formats.
The formats available are labeled as either "stable" or "experimental."
There are no known problems with the stable formats.
The experimental formats may be readable, but there are known problems with them (e.g. citations are not correct, margins are strange, text is difficult to read, etc.).
The stable formats available are as follows:
- PDF - Adobe Acrobat Reader. This file should be readable by any computer with the appropriate reader installed. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader here
- PS - This is postscript, which is a format most appropriate for printing. Readers exist, but typically their quality is not stellar.
- DVI - The output of LaTeX. Useful for developers that want the exact output LaTeX produced
The experimental formats available are as follows:
- HTML - Web pages. Citations are currently broken in the webpage format. Also, the HTML converter does not seem to recognize all LaTeX commands used, which results in some weird problems.
- RTF - Rich Text Format. This format is importable to Microsoft Word and OpenOffice. Currently, the margins are set strangely in RTF format.
- TXT - This is plain text readable by just about anything. Currently, new lines and spacing are all wrong - making this format difficult to read
The LaTeX source code is available in the following formats:
- TAR.GZ - A TAR archive compressed with gzip. Any Linux of UNIX machine should be able to extract the source code files from this compressed archive. Windows machines may have some troubles with this format. WinZip may be able to help.
- ZIP - The source code compressed using the zip utility. Most Windows machines and Linux/UNIX machines should be able to read this.
If you download the source code and have the appropriate tools, you can produce the science book and all of its companion articles in all of the formats listed here yourself.
You can also edit the science book according to the terms of the GNU FDL license.
If you would like to contribute to the science book project, downloading the LaTeX source would be a good place to start.
